Get To Know Your Phytochemicals By: Vida Humphreys
The growth in anti aging products has grown enormously over the last two decades and this is due primarily to the fact we are all living longer and want to look younger as we get older. How we achieve this is with anti aging products that synthesize the production of the protein collagen the primary connective tissue in our skin, approximately 25 percent. Another part of the anti aging process connected to this are the anti oxidants.
Probably the best known of these is vitamin C although no-one really knows just how much we should have each day. The main problem when using any product which uses vitamin C is that oxidization can occur as soon as it has contact with the air.
Manufacturers are trying alternatives to vitamin C that do not have this oxidization problem and that do not cost as much to produce. Unfortunately the products used to replace vitamin C are not as effective.
Vitamin E is an anti oxidant and component of human blood whose purpose is to help increase the body's immune system. Whereas lipoic acid is found in every single human cell and whose function is to provide energy and reverse much of the damage caused to the skin by aging.
There is also another group of compounds that have proved beneficial in the formulation of anti aging skin care products called phytochemicals which are taken out of a variety of plants. Like lipoic acid, phytochemicals help reduce the occurrence of cancers such as prostate, breast and colon.
It has also been discovered that there are anti aging benefits to vitamins B5, B6 and B12. Although the area of anti aging skin care products is huge, more is being learned about the whole aging process and about natural products that can reduce the effects it has on our bodies as well as our skin.
A great deal bout the aging process has already been learned and the anti aging skin care products available today are already far more advanced than ten years ago, but there is still a long way to go. There may be many challenges still to overcome but in time scientists believe they will succeed in producing more effective anti aging products that are less expensive.
However, man made skin care products should be used only as a supplement to the natural ways of skin and body care something which cannot really be replaced. So, drinking plenty of pure nonclorinated water, getting a good night sleep, exercising regularly, maintaining healthy eating habits and minimizing stress are essential means of delaying the aging process.
