Recycle Your Old Candles By: Derek Mcneill
Could anything be better than a wonderful romantic setting when you are in love? In order to provide a relaxed and romantic ambiance, sometimes extra touches are used to create that special ambience. Candlelight and flowers usually add that special magic to a romantic date.
The diffused, sparkling orange light of the candle excites and instantly relaxes ones mood. This effect can be enhanced by using fragrant, colored candles which appeal to the senses. Yes, they are wonderful and romantic but they could also end up costing quite a bit. One of the absolute best ways to get around this particular problem is to create some colorful, fragrant candles all on your own.
Put all the old candles you can find into a double boiler and gently melt them all down. Even though the boiling water is capable of melting the wax, you should make sure that you never place the container filled with wax directly on to a naked cooker flame because it can be dangerous. If you do not have enough old candles, buying new ones in bulk quantities will keep the total cost down and will definitely be cheaper than the exorbitant price charged in stores, you'll find extremely cheap Candles online these days.
Select the candle moulds and shapes you would prefer to use as the wax melts. Even though the aluminum containers are known to get extremely hot when you pour the hot wax inside of them, they are really the best choice. Use anything from paper cups to glasses to get the designs and shapes you need.
Make the wick by taking out one from an old candle or using white cotton straw. Make the wick taut by rubbing wax on it and then insert it into the melted wax in the mould. Add the desired oil color into the melted wax and be sure to add the color slowly and mix thoroughly so that you know when to stop. The wick must be pushed slowly and steadily into the melted wax down the middle and all the way to the bottom, straight down.
Melt wax in various containers and add different colors to them if you would like to make candles with layers of multi colors. The mold for the different colored candle should be tall as all the layers should be seen and care should be taken while pouring the different colors one on top of the other. The colored wax must be poured into the container after the first layer has cooled off. A horrible colored lump may form with all the colors mixed up if this is not taken care of.
If you wish to make sweet-scented candles, then add the desired essential oil-based fragrance to the melted wax after you have added the color and stirred it as the heat may cause the fragrance to fly away. These fragrances are easily available in the market and range from floral ones like jasmine and rose to others like tea tree, lemon grass and musk. After the color, fragrance and wick have been added, place the mould in the freezer to allow the candle to come out easily; it is as easy as that.
