Depression: Some Common Causes By: Rob Greenhalf
People who suffer with depression often complain they feel crippled by the condition and there seems to be no way out of it; as a consequence of many years research into the illness, a number of variants have been discovered. People suffer for different reasons but basically it is a result of having some unresolved issues in their lives; almost every person will suffer from it (usually to a lesser degree) from time to time during their lives. People who are depressed require specialized medical help with their condition and should seek it at an early stage; professionals can help with the situation but also discover the root cause of the condition.
Feeling low and angry at life affects all of us occasionally in particular when something awful has happened; a person is not necessarily diagnosed with depression just because they feel this way. Many people have problems caused by personal issues in relationships or family situations; if you're having difficulties in dealing with an issue and you are ‘stressed out', you will need to find a way out of it. In many incidences like this, a person believes that if they ignore the problem it will just resolve itself but this rarely happens; the answer is to get the help needed to face the problem and stop it controlling your life.
Probably the second most common cause is a person's place of work and could be the result of confrontation, stressful work, intimidation or even harassment; without an intermediary stepping in these circumstances often result in the person suffering with panic attacks as well. Often, the person who is having work problems will end up unhappy and even have periods of sick leave as they become less able to perform their work duties; counselors can be very helpful in these situations as they are non confrontational which is especially helpful for people this vulnerable. It is also possible that certain medications can cause chemical imbalances that create a feeling of depression; these can produce symptoms and feelings that almost identical to a person who has emotional issues.
If symptoms like this become apparent then the medication needs to be stopped before the situation worsens. The hardest cases of depression to deal with are those where there is no apparent cause; when they don't seem to have any cause that can be identified as the reason for the problem, medical staff will have to research the patient further. If there are issues that are hard to work through then help will be needed to resolve these issues; when the patient refuses to recognize the cause of the condition, the healing process will come to a halt.
Although around for a long time, it is well known that manic depression or bipolar as it is also known can be hard to diagnose; unfortunately, new studies have found that owing to new overlap theories it can actually take up to five years before a person could be correctly diagnosed as suffering from this condition. This is not normally something that will just go away on its own so it requires the patient to take a certain amount of control and seek professional help in curing what is generally a long term condition. Delay is the worst thing to do, so seek medical help as soon as you realize the problem is not going away; if it is having a detrimental affect on your life then once something positive is done there will be a sense of relief which is the first step to becoming cured.
