The fire alarm should be tested weekly during normal business hours. The width of exits and escape routes depends on the workforce or number of persons who might need to use the same, as specified in Approved Document B of The Building Regulations 2000.
There are specific responsibilities to be handled by the Health & Safety Officer or other responsible person assigned the task. The appointed person may be held liable for any alleged breaches of Health & Safety rules both in the Civil and Criminal Courts. Those in charge of safety can therefore get exposed to heavy liability, along with the employer.
