Guitar Performance Anxiety By: Brav Wohn
One great way to create motivation to practice on your guitar is to perform in front of other individuals in different ways. Do you like to play in front of people and still love the experience? The affair need not be a conventional one, for you to play.
The way you could start with your guitar presentation is to set up a small show in the comfort of your own house. Your audience could be your own family relations. There could be several chances for practicing your music in the home environment where you could even ask your other family fellow members or pals to play their music too. This of course needs some planning to organize a domestic presentation and for your own preparation also.
But what happens if you detest the idea of performing? One way where you could rehearse with your guitar repertory is to continue playing in isolation and make out that there are lots of people in front of you. If you want to help your vision a bit you can put unused chairs in front of you representing the audience. In such artificial shows, you have to be true to yourself and play according to what you had planned from beginning to end, and if you make a mistake, what should be your plan of action? You would in all probability want to minimize the consequence of this mistake and just play on, so this is what you have to rehearse even in this comfortable setting. This would ultimately result in your raising the level of self confidence and self control as well, and this would give you a chance to learn from your mistakes of guitar playing.
You could even tape your playing so that you can inspect it later for faults etc. Don't make this recording thing to complicated especially these days with cell phones and mp3 players it's an easy task to accomplish. Making a recording is similar to having a critic in the audience and listening to other musicians is also beneficial. You have to look upward in order to rise to a higher level in your guitar playing and this will be established by listening to guitar players on a higher aesthetic level than yourself. You must exercise the same kind of passion, which you would show in a performance when you rehearse you guitar pieces, or memorizing songs. Along with your music, you must master the art of showing your attitude, body language and stress level management. The spirit of joy and delight felt during your rehearse sessions would permeate to the member of the audience when you perform in front of them.
