Close Down The Dvla And Give All Work To The Post Office By: Tony_Dean
The DVLA in Swansea in the UK has since it's inception been too remote from the people. The huge megalith wants closing down and the land and property sold off and the funds put into the treasury to save any more 'cuts' to other services. The work could be given to the local post office of issuing licenses, tax disks and vehicle registrations. The workforce at DVLA could be cut saving a fortune.
This idea surfaced on my forum: rantonuk.org and was sent as a 'Discussion Document' to all members of the house. Not one dissented from the idea and those who replied said they welcomed the proposal.
The Post Office should be then be sold off with the 'icing on the cake' - the work from the DVLA-and would in my opinion result in the biggest share float in Britains history which money would be a welcome boost to the treasury.
The arrogance of the DVLA has to be seen to be believed. I applied for a Provisional Driving License on 8th. March 2010 and the application form has been sent back several times with the excuse that: "The passport office can't find your passport number, please send your passport""
I will not send key documents like that in the post, other countries of the world would forbid you to do so as well. Too much i.d. fraud is taking place in this country with a lot of documents 'disappearing' from the mail service and ending up in wrong hands.
The 'Check and Send' service at the post office is disbelieved by the DVLA, so why have it at all?
The postal clerk said I do not have to send a passport in the post because he is checking the document for the DVLA and a form stating he has sighted the document was sent with the application form to the DVLA.
I contacted the passport service at Newport and they informed me by email that they can find my passport number, they know where it was issued and they know when it expires. "We can only assume the DVLA have input the wrong number, you may show them this letter and if they have any problems contact the undersigned at Newport".
That email I printed out and sent to the DVLA with the application form and they rejected it with: "The passport office can't find your passport number, please send your passport"!!!
We go around in circles!!
This organisation at DVLA are inept, incompetent and want closing down. If I am having this problem it takes no stretch of the imagination that others have, and still are, having the same problems with them. Is this the service we require in this country?
I think not!
p.s I eventually sent the documents to the local m.p. and even he has not been able to persuade the DVLA to send me my license I have paid for. It is 14 July 2010 and I still have not received a Provisional Driving License.
Save costs and aggro - close the DVLA down and give all the work to the local post office then float the post office on the stock exchange raising a huge amount of funds for the treasury.
The then privatised post office will have to employ more people to deal with all the extra work involved leading to improved employment prospects locally.
