Do you love to play Scrabble? Lots of people do! However, do you know where the game came from? The history of Scrabble begins in 1938, when a similar game was invented by the name of Lexiko, however in 1948, the rights of manufacturing was sold to James Brunot. He then changed the name to Scrabble and revised its rules. In 1952, after being discovered by the president of Macy’s, Jack Strauss gave the game its first break, since he figured everyone would love the game and should have it. However, there were so many orders coming in that Brunot could not keep up with them. Selchow & Righter then bought the rights to the game, however during the years the game rights have passed through many different hands. The Scrabble TV game show made its appearance in 1984.

Points are accumulated in the game of Scrabble by forming various word from its individual letter tiles. These words many be formed in patterns running up, down and across the game board which is made up of 15 x 15 grid squares, which will accommodate for a single tile. Included in the game are ninety-eight letter tiles ranging in their point value form one to ten. There are fewer points gained by using the common letters, while harder letters offer higher points, such as the use of Q or Z. Also included are two blank tiles that are used for substituting for any other letter. They have a value of zero. The game board features various colorful tiles and when these squares are used to form words, their points are doubled or tripled.
Each player will draw a tile to determine who goes first, while the letter closest to the beginning of the alphabet goes first. Seven tiles are then drawn by each player to place on their rack. A player may choose to pass, exchange their tiles for tiles left in the bag or to play a word on the board to score points, and then replace the tiles used with more from the bag. The first player begins the game by playing a word at the center of the board. The game is over when someone plays all their seven tiles and there are none in the bag to replace those used or when there are six games in a row that gain no scores with a zero - zero score. The points are tallied, while players will subtract any remaining points from the tiles left on his or her rack.
