Prayer Activates Power In The Life Of A Believer By: Elphas Mdluli
"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous man avails much.
Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it
might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six
months.
And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit." (James
5:16-18).
Prayer is an opportunity for a Christian and God to commune or fellowship. This opportunity is available
at anytime of the day. It may be in the morning, noon day or evening. Prayer is a need both to God and
you as a person. The reason God created a human being was to have fellowship since man was created
in his image of God. God could not fellowship with the rest of His creation since there was nothing
common between Him and them. God and man need each other in order for the earth to function
accordingly. This article intends to highlight two ways by which a person benefits from prayer.
1.A Believer Receives Power.
"But ye shall receive power after the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be
witnesses to me, both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the
uttermost part of the earth." (Acts 1:8).
If you received baptism in the Holy Spirit, you received power. Power in this scripture refers to the
ability to cause changes. This ability touches every aspect of your life. This may be your success in
your home, business, prosperity, wealth, and health. So the ability to function is guaranteed by prayer.
You need that spiritual power to function because you are not just flesh and blood. You don't just have
a soul like an animal, but you are a spirit. You are like God. So His nature is in you. Therefore you need
Him for strength.
2. Pray to Experience The Power.
"And in the morning, rising a great while before day, he went out and departed into a
solitary place, and there prayed." (Mark 1:35).
The Bible indicates that Jesus prayed early in the morning. He went to a solitary place. Now if Jesus
needed to pray to be successful, this is an indicator to me that a person needs to pray. The Bible tells us
about the results of prayer as Jesus ministered to the different needs of the people. Jesus opened the
eyes of the blind, opened deaf ears, fed thousands that were hungry, raised the dead, and that was the
power of prayer. Everyone needs power and this is more so because of the presence of evil on earth.
You have been commanded to pray according to 1Thessalonians 5:17, which says, "Pray without
ceasing."
The early Christians also prayed according to Acts 2:42-43, "And they continued steadfastly in the
apostles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the
apostles."
This still emphasizes the point that we need to pray. So you must commune with God to maintain the
strength that you need in life.
Now, you have realized that prayer is important. If it was important to Jesus and the early Christians, it
must be important even to us today. You have power residing in you. So you do not have to suffer with
the power residing in you. Make time to pray. Be passionate about it and you will enjoy the rewards.
