Many films about people suffering with cancer have been made in recent years the most notable, features a scientist who discovers the cure only to lose it. A cure would bring a sigh of relief everywhere. Research over the years has helped our understanding of cancer but not to the point where we are able to foretell exactly when it will happen.

Even now many people do not really understand what cancer is despite growing up with it all around them. They then invade other cells and repeat the process.

A cancerous tumor keeps growing but a benign one is self-limiting and generally won't cause any harm to the body. Most cancers are caused by some form of poison in the cells which creates abnormalities in the genetic makeup of those cells.

A genetic trait may be inherited and thus present in all cells from birth. It would seem that certain people's genetic makeup makes them less prone to contacting the illness even if they are allowing harmful carcinogens into their bodies.

Owing to the worldwide problem of cancer, it is regularly studied throughout the world and extending our knowledge on the subject. Study, in general, helps us learn why one person is more susceptible to an illness than another. By understanding the origins of cancer, perhaps we will be able to avoid contracting it until we come up with a cure.

No-one is immune from cancer. It can affect anyone at some time in a person's life. This is an insidious disease that can take a long time to surface but fortunately the number of forms that can be treated is increasing all the time. However, the consistent research is paying off and the life expectancy of cancer victims is increasing all the time.
