Will Anti-aging Products Really Make Me Look Younger? By: Carol Bell
It is only natural that as people get older they want to continue looking young so the regular use of anti-ageing skin care products is becoming the norm. This is done by encouraging the growth of the protein collagen which happens to be the main source of the protein used in the connective tissue of skin. Collagen is related to other Substances called anti-oxidants which help reduce the anti-ageing process.
Although the benefits of vitamin C (an anti-oxidant) are well documented, it is still debated as to what our daily amount should be. The main problem when using any skin care treatments which use vitamin C is that oxidization can occur as soon as they have contact with the air.
More stable skin care treatments are now available that are almost as efficient and actually cost less to manufacture. Unfortunately the anti-oxidant products used to replace vitamin C are not as effective but as vitamin E and lipoic acid can both have the same effect; this is not too much of a problem.
Vitamin E has many functions including inhibiting the formation of cancer cells. Lipoic acid is also an energy making component of the body, found in every cell, it can also help reduce the ageing process which affects the skin.
The use of plants has not been overlooked either with many types able to provide essences called phytochemicals which have proved successful in anti-ageing skin care products. Phytochemicals prevent occurrence of certain types of cancer.
Surprisingly, the group of vitamins; B5, B6, and B12 have also shown that they can be used to help reduce the effects of ageing. This just goes to highlight just how complex and far reaching the whole field of anti-ageing skin care products is and why so much more research is required.
Although current regimes are effective, there are still many challenges to finding better and more efficient ways to combat the effects of time. The amount of research going on in this field will undoubtedly bring results in time, hopefully bringing down the cost of these anti-ageing skin care products in addition to increasing their reliability.
Fortunately there are a number of natural anti-ageing regimes that can be carried out that do not rely on science. Natural methods are known, but few actually follow them.
