Starting Your Own Business By: Dom Cowen
Taking the step of quitting a regular job to start a home business, involves bravery as well as risk. But this is the only step which a businessman can take if wants to fulfill his business ambitions. Starting a home business after quitting a regular job is all about taking maximum risk for any enterprise owner. However, the dangers involved could be negated if you are prepared with adequate financial resources, a feasible business plan, the right business proposal and the dedication to see it to the end, the entire exercise could be highly rewarding.
Being an entrepreneur is all about taking risks so if anybody else tries to tell you otherwise, ignore them. Provided you are ready to slog out without the world even noticing what you are doing then putting in your papers should not be very dangerous. Having your own business is all about taking calculated risks and taking the right decisions at the right time to reap in the profits later. To sharpen your analytical skills, go on practicing the art, like you would do with several other things in life.
It is very hard to quit a regular job for several reasons, though this is the first step for any entrepreneur to start a home business. At the outset it is a difficult personal decision to say goodbye to some good friends and colleagues. This can be made even more difficult where there is a sense of loyalty and dependency on your input, which can cause feelings of guilt and unease. In addition to the above, giving up your job means giving up an income, which is obviously an extremely risky thing to do with regular bills to pay and mouths to feed.
These hurdles are tough to over come and would require a great deal of consideration and zeal. You can not take the decision to quit your regular job on a whimsical basis and you need to be completely sure of your business plan before you think about it. Never quit your regular job before the ground work of your home business is in order or you have the necessary money saved so that it can see you through the time till your enterprise start to give you the returns. It would be great if you can rope in a partner during this interim phase that takes care of all your bills.
The usual business operations run at a loss in the first year and if lucky then it would take another couple of years to break even. If luck is on your side, then you could start to make money from the third year. So is it tough to start a home business?
