Become A Gift Giving Superstar By: Ren Copper
When you stop to think just how many occasions require a gift it can be overwhelming. There are birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, retirements, house warmings and of course....the Holidays. Most often the approach to picking a gift is to browse the stores.
While going up and down the aisles (in a hurry since gift purchasing seems to be a last minute task!) sooner or later there will be the right item. You will know it because you will hear this little voice in your head that says "This will work for Sue".
It seems to me that this is the wrong way to confront finding a gift. If something "will work", we have let that item fit into what we think we are looking for. Why start with hoping an item will jump off the shelve and be acceptable?
I think it is only because we are so strapped for time that we do not really make gift giving something special.
The idea behind a gift should be to find something that SUITS the person we are giving it to. It should be something that has special meaning and matches an interest of theirs. Maybe the gift is related to something that is shared between the giver and the recipient.
It may seem that this is a lot of trouble and time that you just do not have to invest. Here are two suggestions to make it easier.
First, keep a little notebook of ideas. Anytime you are with someone and notice something that they express an interest in...write it down. Believe me you will not remember otherwise when it comes time to actually find a gift. Think of the number of times you have heard someone say "I'd love to have.....I wish I had....I could really use...". If all of those are in your little book, you are home free!
Another step to take is to always be on the lookout for gifts. When you see something you just know would be perfect for someone in your life....buy it. I have a "gift closet".
In it are not only the gifts that I happened upon that are specifically for someone, but I often keep my eyes open for those great things that I can never find if I'm looking.
This is a wonderful tactic if you are a bargain shopper. When the sales come and there are super low prices on items that would make good gifts....stock up!
Imagine being able to just go to your gift closet and get a gift that is special and probably was a deal. The best thing is it is already in your home. Rather than spending time out frantically looking for something, all you have to do is wrap.
Ren Copper loves finding ways to make her life easier (and cheaper!). She is always on the lookout for the perfect present, whether it is something for the home or something to complete the prefect outfit. That "always be prepared" is something to live by!
