Giving Up Your Day Job By: Stuart Smith
Saying quits to a permanent job to start a home business is both daring and speculative. To be able to achieve his business pursuits and goals, every entrepreneur would need to take this critical plunge. Starting a home business after giving up a stable employment is never a walk in the park for any business owner. However if you are ready with the right idea, a well-researched plan, the right kind of money and the talent to make it succeed, the venture could offer you great value for money.
Entrepreneurship is a testing ground to check how much risk you are capable of taking so if anyone gives you another picture, pretend not to hear. Of course you have to be prepared for some real hard work where you might not be rewarded and people would not even cheer when you do something good, then resigning from your job is not that hard. Business would naturally involve making the right choices and taking calculated fool-proof risks to see the money rolling in. To sharpen your analytical skills, go on practicing the art, like you would do with several other things in life.
Giving up your job to start a home business can be difficult on a number of levels, despite the fact that it is fundamental to being an entrepreneur. First of all it is really painful to dissociate oneself from ones old colleagues and friends for good. The problem takes a worse turn when your work has so far been loyal and dependable, you start to feel uneasy and a sense of guilt overpowers you. In addition to this, giving up a regular job entails no money at the end of the month which can be precarious since you have to pay the bills and fee people around you.
These hurdles are tough to over come and would require a great deal of consideration and zeal. You can not take the decision to quit your regular job on a whimsical basis and you need to be completely sure of your business plan before you think about it. Never quit your 9 to 5 job before all your plans to start the new enterprise is in order including enough money saved up which would help in your day to day expenses till your home business takes off profitably. It would be great if you can rope in a partner during this interim phase that takes care of all your bills.
The usual business operations run at a loss in the first year and if lucky then it would take another couple of years to break even. The fortunate ones start making money in year three. It may be an arduous task to start a home business and may be even tougher than a regular employment, whether it is worth all the trouble would depend entirely on you.
